A Lump on my Mellon...Ouch...

A very weird thing happened to me the other day. I went down to visit Bob in the hospital. I took a sip of coffee and it went down the wrong pipe, so I started coughing. The next thing I remember is wondering why I was laying on the floor, and why my head was throbbing. Apparently I coughed so hard that I passed out for a couple of seconds and hit the little tray table with my head on the way down. Followed closely by me hitting my head on the floor. I still have three sore spots on my Mellon. What a strange feeling though. One second I was up and alert, the very next I was laying on the floor. It was like I traveled through time. The span of time between choking on the coffee and picking myself up off the floor is missing. It could have been a second or a month, I would not know the difference.

But then a lot of weird things have been happening lately. I think the stalker is back. I got a strange text the other night. Not that I really give a shit. The way I see it, if this mystery person had any credible information for me, they would have just called me. What is the point of the secrecy? Who are they trying to protect? Not me. Not Deb. Then who? I've got an idea of who it is, but then what difference does it make, anyway? In life, you just have to play the cards you're dealt.

I've been neglecting you, lately, my dear friend, but I was so happy to receive your Christmas card in the mail that I decided to catch up on your blog - I must forewarn you, I decided I'd get wasted tonight (work night and all!) since I didn't have Tyson, and you will never have a clue as to how hard it was to type this...! LOL! Love Bob's story, bless his heart...you really do have a knack for humorous writing! You'd better email me privately as to what this whole "staker" thing is all about...sounds very ominous...Hang in there! (Seriously, this must have taken me a 1/2 hour to type & correct - I am not kidding! My poor neighbors had to deal with a good solid hour of karoake from me - I am such a nut!)

My Buddy Bob

Bob is in the hospital. If you knew Bob, the way I know Bob, this would not be that much of a surprise. This is the person who, when we were kids, cut his knee with a circular saw. To make matters worse, he was on crutches after the saw incident, managed to fall down the stairs and break his wrist. Then he was confined to a wheel chair. Years latter, he thought it would be a good idea to cut the heads off of a whole box of match books and put them in a glass bottle. When there was nothing around that would work as a fuse, he figured that it would be a good idea to just drop a lit cigarette in the bottle. We all just kind of stared breathless at the bottle, but nothing happened. At this point Bob slowly crept up to the bottle with the smoldering cigarette inside. Perched majestically on top of an enormous pile of stick-less match heads. Bob yells out, "I see the problem, the cigarette is standing up. It'll never go off like this." With that, Bob grabbed the bottle with his left hand and gave it a good shake. Paused and looked at it, and set it back down on the picnic table. The instant he let go, it exploded. From my vantage point, about fifty feet directly behind him, I could see him in silhouette against a huge, bright white ball of flame. He still has glass embedded in his left arm and forehead, as well as nerve damage in the fingers of his left hand.

If you were to walk down the stairs in Bob's Mothers house, you would see all of the family photos lined up. You can see how the children grew up in those photos and there is something else that you don't notice right away. In every single picture, Bob has a cut, scrape or bruise on his face. His mother thought he would do it on purpose, so she stopped telling them when the appointment was with the photographer. But he still managed to get injured just days before the photo shoot.

So this time around, Bob was welding at work(did I mention that he is a welder?)when a bottle of solvent that was in the truck he was welding caught fire. His first reaction was to get it out of the truck, so he picked it up and it exploded, burning him on his left hand and arm. They took him by ambulance to the Bridgeport hospital burn unit for treatment. I stopped in to see him tonight on my way to work. He was in pretty good spirits considering. The only thing upsetting him was that he didn't have any cigarettes, so I gave him some. They are going to knock him out on Friday morning to do a deep cleaning of his forearm, and on Monday they are going to do some skin grafts. With any luck he should be home in about a week, but I don't think he will be back to work for several months. Thank God for workmen's Comp.

Deb and I went to Jake's school today for the old Parent Teacher conference. BIG SURPRISE!!!! Jake is doing a lot better. Especially in math, his teacher said. She told us that he was doing so well, that she is not at all upset about all the homework he misses. I guess we must be doing something right after all.

If I were a professional wrestler, I would go by the name
"Harry Areola".

Doesn't it just roll off the tongue?

Snow Threat & A Letter

People are yet again going crazy over the threat of a little snow. I had the unpleasant experience of trying to get gas on the way to work tonight. It really sucked. There were tons of people there, and it was after 10pm. Why aren't these people home in bed where they belong at that time of night. I had to drive like a mad man all the way in, to get here on time.

I wrote Deb a letter this morning and left it on the laptop for her to read. I told her how much it hurt to see her looking for him again. I also told her that I am not the one dwelling on the past, she is. That was a big realization for me. I was really starting to beat myself up because I thought that I was having trouble "letting go". But the other night I was thinking about it and it hit me like a frying pan to the head. I didn't do anything. So why should I be killing myself over it. She is the one who looked him up, not me. I was just unlucky enough to find it.

I left her a letter instead of talking to her about it for a few reasons. Firstly, every time we talk, lately, we end up sounding like a couple of skipping records. Saying the same things over and over to each other, and never really getting anywhere. Secondly, I didn't want anything that I said to be taken out of context or otherwise misunderstood. And lastly, I don't want to have a fight over something I did or didn't say. When it is in writing, you can always go back and look at it again, leaving nothing to speculation.

The last thing I told her in the letter was that I really want to talk about it, but it has to be a conversation, not a confrontation. I don't want to argue, but at the same time I can't sit idly by while she is looking up her ex lover.

Trial?

Trial Delayed As Saddam Refuses to Attend

I saw this tonight and I almost became ill. Why does anyone give a shit how he has been treated? Why is the court letting him get away with this kind of behavior? I know if it was me, I would be held in contempt until I met the demands of the judge. Weather it be a formal apology or what ever else he could think up. Personally, I think he should be kept in solitary confinement, and allowed to watch his trial via closed circuit TV. They could always video tape his testimony and play it for the court. What the hell does he need to be there for? What could he possibly contribute other than disorder? I don't know, But I think that the marines that found him should have just thrown a grenade down that hole rather than go in and get his sorry ass out. But then, maybe, I'm just to sadistic.

Actually, My personal opinion of the whole Iraq situation is that there is no way they will ever be able to govern themselves. They are entirely too religious. Every one of them believes that they are the one that is right, will not compromise and cannot be persuaded otherwise. The only way for there to be a stable, democratic (representative republic actually) government is if we made it the 51st state.

Once again, I get the feeling that I should be president......LOL

Sometimes the moon is out durring the day, But the sun is never out at night. That pisses me off!

Snow

Today was a very odd feeling day. I had to work the car wash and only one car came through. Everyone and their dog was buying gas, but no one wanted a wash. Storm coming. FLEE FLEE! Please, It never amounts to what they say, and even if it did, so what. Is a little snow that much of a problem? When was the last time you were stuck in your home for more than say 10 hours due to the snow? Not very often in southern new England. Everyone is preparing for some kind of life threatening event. GET A GRIP!

I'm having a hard time concentrating tonight. There is something I need to sort out in my head, but it just keeps causing me to ask myself more questions that I can't answer. If I ask her about it, I already know what she will say. But if I don't, it will never go away. (hey, that rhymes)

Dave update...

You've heard me talk about Dave's car accident and his recovery so I've decided to (remembered is more like it) post the picture that was in the paper.

Basically, I just remembered to steal it from Deb's new blog. As you can see there is not much left of it. This is what happens when you hit a pine tree at 65MPH sliding sideways. It's no wonder it took them an hour to cut him out. Looking at this I can't imagine how he is still alive.

Dave's physical recovery is going rather well. He is able to get himself out of bed and into a wheel chair to get around, so he's not confined to the bed anymore. His psychological recovery is not as good though. Due to the fact that his left leg can't support his weight yet, he was kicked out of the re-hab hospital and put into a nursing home. With old people. Not that there is anything wrong with that... Dave has been getting more and more depressed as time goes by. Especially with the holidays coming and all. And him being the only one in the place that isn't retired, has been wearing on his mind. And I can't say that I blame him. Add to that the stress his wife is going through, not only with the worry that her husband is not home, but also the financial burden of supporting herself and their son on her own. It all makes for a rather shitty situation.

On a lighter note; the old man in my shop is retiring soon. He has already bought a house in Arizona, near his son, and is just waiting for his house here to sell. He is trying to get rid of everything that he doesn't absolutely need to make the move as easy as possible. Well...... I got a new stereo out of it!!!!!!!!!

He gave me a Sony component stereo system. NICE!!!!!! Came with a nice oak cabinet and matching oak floor speakers with 12" woofers. Five disc CD changer, 275x2 watt amplifier, dual cassette, It even has a turn table (what is that, you may be asking....LOL). Nicest home system I've ever had. And the price was the best part, FREEEEEEEEEEE!!! So, now I'm thinking of setting up a computer in the cabinet with it so I can stream XM of the net and play it on the new system. All I need is a wireless NIC, and I will be all set. I have an old 'puter sitting in the office that would work great as a music box. It's just collecting dust right now.

Remember......DRINK MILK!!.

Dave really is a lucky man - I hope he can just try to remember that part of all this when he's dealing with all the crappy results...

I'm so stoked for you on the free stereo! It sounds pretty kick-ass, and BTW, I have a turn-table, too! :) I just got a really nice 27" RCA console TV with the doors that close over it & all kinds of nice extras delivered to my place FOR FREE off of freecycle...have you heard of it? You sound like me - I always love a good deal (especially free!). If you don't already know about it, just do a yahoo search for yahoo freecycle & register for your state & city. Then they will send you emails when people post offers of free stuff or wanted ads. I set up a folder in my yahoo account so that all the freecycle messages go straight there. I can't begin to tell you all the things I've gotten off of there, including my cat & an awesome DVD player. Check it out! Have a great day!
